The pattern comes from Creative Knitting Magazine as a freebie. I adjusted the number of stitches I cast on (38) to convert the Texture Painted Place Mat into a dishcloth. I love how the the yarn decides how the pattern and design will turn out. The knitting either in stockinette or reverse stockinette as determined by the color of the yarn is what developes the design. There will be areas of garter stitch where the colors overlap. This is fun not knowing how each cloth will develop...definitely a surprise...I like that.Here are the individual cloths:

Wow ! What yarn is that ? I really, really, really love these. Just when I thought I'd picked my favorites with the last variegated one you did !
ReplyDeleteThe blue and the green is millend cotton I got at AC Moore and the yellow is peaches & cream - daisy ombre. They really do make an interesting and fun knit. I love not knowing exactly what you'll end up with :)

I love the dishcloths but am confused regarding the pattern. Is it just freeform---knit one color, combine and purl, knit another color?

Yes, it is pretty much freeform. whatever you do, you do have to be consistent for a design to emerge.

I love this look, but don't understand. Do you pick a dominant color in an ombre or variegated yarn, and when that color comes up, change your stitching pattern?
