A New Favorite

First of all I want to thank everyone who prayed and wished Elisabeth well from my last post. Her surgery went as well as was expected, but with her chest being opened up as if it were open heart surgery, she'll have a long recovery of at least six weeks. As of Tuesday it still wasn't known if the tumor was cancerous or not. The power of prayers is powerful. I am keeping her in my prayers and hope for a good outcome. There was a huge response to the request for knitted squares and there were enough extra squares knitted so that each of her siblings would receive a patchwork pillow. Elizabeth is one of four children, so you can see there were many squares knitted.

I have found a new favorite wash/dish cloth thanks to Olly. She wrote to me this week needing a little help with this interesting pattern. When I first looked at the pattern I was stumped. I really had no intention of knitting cloths this week, but the pattern had a stitch that was very different and I had never done it before. This could only mean one thing. Drop my sock knitting, find some cotton (I must say it felt a little weird knitting with cotton again after socks. The yarn feels so FAT) and give it a try. Olly was patient, I was swamped with commitments (i.e. life) and needed a couple of days to find the time....but I did eventually. I sure was glad I did. I found a new favorite :) The first one I tried exactly as the pattern suggests using two colors:
This is a relatively quick knit with groups of three slipped stitches...fast, really fast. Once you get the hang out of knitting under the loops...it's really easy. The only downside was it was a bit of a pain using the two colors (3 balls of yarn). You know when I'm hooked though, because I just had to try another one...this time with a variegated yarn, couldn't help myself:
Looks much different from the two color one, right? It's the same pattern, honest. Now I want to try it with a solid color :) If you are interested in trying a new cloth pattern, I would definitely give Honeycomb Washcloth a try. ...try it you'll like it!

Now I have to finish my new pair of socks, which I am very excited and anxious to show you. Be sure and come back, because I'll be posting a new free pattern, hopefully soon. Happy Knitting :)

  12. I love it in two colors! I'm sure it does a good job as well, with the ridges. I'm intrigued about your new socks, and pattern.

  14. The cloths are lovely---I like the variegated one! I know what you mean about switching to cotton--I was knitting on my Tofutsies socks on size zero needles last night until I started going blind, then switched to my current dishcloth. It felt like I was knitting on size 13 needles, but what a relief! Those socks are killin' me! Looking forward to seeing your socks soon! :)

  15. Hi! The timing of your post is perfect for me once again :-) After visiting with some relatives out of state I came home with the desire to knit some dishcloths and kitchen hand towels for all the various households in my family. Having another pattern to use will help me make each little parcel a little different for each homemaker.

My Millicent socks are getting lonely, but they will wait.

  20. I love the two colored one! Must. Try. Thanks for the link :)

I have been so remiss in reading blogs! What an awful thing for such a little person to go through. I know that the blanket she gets will be a great comfort :)

  21. LOVE it, don't know if I'm ready to try something complicated yet with my knitting; but I really like the look of it. Think it would make an awesome blanket all in one color even so I didn't have to mess with 2 yarns etc. I'm sorry I was unaware of little Elizabeth's plight. I've been to tied up to be on here much. I will keep her in my thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery. Glad you got such a wonderful response for the squares, had I known I would have been honored to help.

Seems I always behind; finally though finished my sweater thats been in the works longer than I want to own up to.

    Swing by for a looky.
    Have a fabulous wk

  22. I'm forever leaving messages on peoples older blogs, only recently did I learn they probably never see them. Blogger unlike all the other blogs I've been involved with has no way of letting you know someone has left a comment on an oldder blog. Too bad. I like to look through, see items of interest, sometimes pics and leave notes. All this time wonder why I heard back from so few people. Then someone explained to me unless they have their blog set to all messages needing to be approved (which I really dislike, seems unfriendly), one never knows someone has left a comment. So, my comment here is really for your previous post with the 2 tone blue corner to corner knitted square. I like it, but wonder how you increased if you didn't do a yarn over? Can you explain?
    Thanks
    Sandy

  24. Thanks for the visit and compliment on my Buckeye Football Sweater. I started that sweater actually for myself..........wierd...never make anything for me, as I was working on, gauge...not the greatest, though I could have made it work. Enter SIL, we're great Buds and she's married to my younger brother, they are part of our tailgate. I have wider shoulders, she's more slight. She saw it and said are you making that for me. lol YOu know how that goes! She tired it one, fit her far better than me....thus it goes.

Knit in and front and back of stitch...do you mean the same stitch. I'm trying to visualize it. Probably need to have stitches on the needles and play with that, but love the sound of no hole.

Per chance do you a picture of it, knitting in front of behind of...
