Getting back to normal...slowly....

Things are getting better...almost normal. My Dad is doing much better. His toe is healed and I don't have to go everyday anymore to change his bandage....yay :) I'm still bringing him meals, washing his clothes, shopping for him and bringing him to all his appointments, so I do see him often.

My eldest son is back to school today and I have my dining room table back!! Winter break is over and he starts his last semester of graduate school tomorrow. My middle son took over his room last year when my eldest was gone more than he was home. He had to move into a room which he shares with my youngest. Of course when my eldest came home for Christmas his nose was out of joint because he felt he had no place to call his own. Sharing a room with your younger brother wasn't his first choice. He was a man without a country so to speak. That's why he took over my dining room and we found his stuff cluttering just about every room in the house. He has been pretty much camping out in our dining room all of the break. He set up his computer right in the middle of our dining room table. That and all his stuff created quite a mess. I'm still playing catch up blog-wise as well as home-wise. Trying to find enough time to do everything is a challenge. I usually do find the time to knit, which is very important to me. I've been knitting, not a lot and not that fast and nothing very exciting or different. I knit another hat for my eldest. I felt a little guilty that I only made one of the fingerless mitts for him and gave up. I had plenty of yarn left, so I made him another hat. I used the cashmere ribbed hat pattern by Fig and Plum. That's the pattern you need to use 6 dpn's for. I LOVE this pattern. I see many more of these hats in my future :)
Another thing I tried for the first time was a cowl. I used the Honey Cowl pattern also by Fig and Plum. Not sure if I did the pattern right or not but it doesn't look like the photo on the pattern page. It may be the yarn I used which is very colorful. The original piece was done in a solid color. That's probably why the pattern doesn't show up. The yarn I used was the yarn I won on Bumpydoink ( Aim's blog) a while back. I still have more yarn left, about a skein and a half. I'm still deciding if I like the cowl or not. Maybe it would look better with a coat. It is bright and when I wear I don't want it to look like a clowns collar. Perhaps I would have been better off with a scarf, but I really wanted to try a cowl.Right now I'm working on another "my so called scarf". I really liked the one I made for a Christmas gift and I decided to make another one for me. I certainly had enough yarn left. It looks like a woven scarf instead of it being knitted. I love the texture.

Foe now, I guess that's all. Hope this finds everyone well and happy. Happy Knitting :)

  1. How do you find the time to knit with taing care of Dad, and two grown boys around, lol. I still want to try that scarf... it's very inviting.

  2. Isn't it funny how our children "spread out" and take over every available free space. My son is in his third semester of graduate school and just went back last Thursday. But, he lives at home so his stuff is EVERYWHERE all the time! LOL

But, I don't mind too much. He's pretty easy to live with.

  3. I know what you mean about kids stuff being all over - when my son is home from college he also owns every room! Love the projects - the cowl is great - I love the colors. I also like "my so called scarf" - it is a great pattern, and I love the texture.

  6. You're makin' me feel very lazy..lol. I just don't know how you're able to do everything and knit, too, but we have to have our down time; that's for sure . I'm glad to hear your dad is better and things are calming a bit, anyway.

The cowl is very cute, but it does need a coat to set it off is all. I can see the pattern just fine. I'll have to queue that scarf pattern. Thanks for the link, again, as I forgot to get a copy earlier.

I'm sure your son appreciated the hat. It looks great.

Hope your week is uneventful. ;)

  7. I'm glad your dad's doing better! I know how that goes. My daughter comes home for about 2 weeks a year, and I have to get my stuff out of her room. I have to find space for all my stash boxes and bins, and put them everywhere throughout the house. :o)
Lovely knit's you've got there. The cowl IS colorful, but it makes me happy to look at it. As much as I like scarves, they always get boring after the mid point, but it's always worth it. I haven't knit the my so caled scarf yet, it looks like a very nice scarf.

  8. It's a relief when things get back to normal. Makes one appreciate the mundane.
I made my first cowl as well. I used a handspun handdyed alpaca I received from a friend. And I wore it all day! I think I like cowls more than scarves.
the hat looks great. I might have to give that one a try.

  10. Glad to hear your dad is doing better.

I can't imagine how you deal with 3 kids and their "territorial" issues. I only have one toddler and her stuff is already taking over the entire house.

  13. glad your dad is doing better. My kids claim the entire house as theirs I wish I could keep their things confined to their rooms! I like the cowl it's cheery. I started thebirthday cowl 3 times for my mom and frogged it each time. guess I should try again now that it's sat a month. I LOVE my so called scarf. It's a great stitch.

Oh and I wasn't intending on trying to frog the felted stuff. I have lots of things to make with them. You should check out the Betz White book beautiful things!

  14. Yea the going away to college and coming back and things not being the same is tough on everyone. We all get used to our new space, time table and routines. Sometimes we work to use cool stitches and the yarn can make it difficult to see them. I've almost gotten to the point where I do textures with solids more cause it shows up, the mutli-colors and varigated yarn can hide them. But...as always your projects are...G R E A T.

    Glad Dad's doing better.

  21. Just want to tell you how much I appreciate the Circle Cloth pattern. This Valentine's Day, I made one for my mother, husband and 2 sons. Frankly it's the best washcloth I've ever made/used. Holds a lot of hot soapy water, thanks to the 2 laters. Thanks for a great free pattern.
