A sense of accomplishment

Remember the "to-go" bag I brought home from this year's (2010) Pine Street Inn Knit-a-thon.

Well, this morning I finally finished it. Earlier in the week I spread out all the squares and started putting it together.Pine St. Inn Knit-a-thon 2010 Once I get them all laid out I just can't help myself working on it when ever I have a few spare minutes.

I decided to do it the same way as last year's and do the flat chain stitch braided crochet technique. It worked out well last year and it's much quicker than mattress stitching all the squares together. Then I did two rows of single crochets around the blanket edge. Here's the finished blanket:

Before I leave you here is another one of my Christmas knitting projects. It's a Christmas stocking for my daughter-in-law. I decided this was the year to give my oldest son his old knitted Christmas stocking (method in my madness, less stockings to fill next year and in the future!)

My favorite (only) daughter-in-law also needed her own new stocking. IMG_0824They have a beautiful fireplace in their new home and I know they will enjoy hanging their stockings. I didn't knit my son's stocking. It was given to him by my cousin as a baby gift. Someone in her church had knitted the stocking for him. This particular stocking is a bit odd, because it doesn't have a heel. It makes a good center stocking though. Recently I found the vintage pattern (ravelry link) (non-ravelry) with the heel and was planning on trying to make the new stocking for "K" with that pattern. I had a really hard time finding yarn similar to the old stocking. I never knew just how many shades of red and green there are out there. I wasn't really happy with the yarn I bought and ended up not making the stocking as per the pattern, but made a solid red stocking and embroidered it like the stockings I had made for my husband and myself many years ago. The vintage stocking was a tapered one as opposed to our embroidered stockings which were straight. If I did it again I would stick to the embroidered "straight" type of stocking. I was able to complete the stocking just in time for Christmas and "K" was happy with the results. I filled the stockings one last time and wrapped them up for them to open on Christmas day. My son noticed right away that his old stocking wasn't in it's usual place hanging on the fireplace mantel.

Here it is hanging for it's last time in all it's glory in our humble abode:

I must say I am glad the holidays are over and done with for this year. Glad to be working on some new projects. I know I still have more Christmas knitting to show you, so be sure and come back again.

Have a wonderful winter weekend with lots of happy knitting :)

  15. Truly marvelous work! The stockings are just wonderful!

I have to commend you on putting together a blanket composed of squares it is my least favorite thing and I shy away from afghans that aren't one piece for that reason. Your method of joining sounds interesting.
