In quest of a neater edge

For a while now I've been thinking about how to go about improving my circle cloth pattern so the resulting cloth has a neater edge. Over and over despite it's popularity I've heard the comment made that they love the cloth, BUT it would be nicer if it had an edge that wasn't so wonky looking.

Needing to make a baby blanket prompted me to pull out some kitchen cotton and knit up some circle cloths and try an idea I had to make a smoother looking edge. First trying it on a smaller scale with a dishcloth and then perhaps trying a blanket.

I was very pleased with my cloths and I think they look pretty good.

Then I moved on to a baby blanket. I'm still only on the beginning stages of completion, but so far so good and I am really loving the thick and cushiony blanket. IMG_0971IMG_0972
I'm using easy care Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn and it's so soft and silky. I even love the wrong side which looks similar to garter stitch stripes. IMG_0974
The secret to the neat edge is knitting the beginning and end of each row in a double knit. IMG_0973
I am very pleased with the results.  What do you think?

Do you think possibly spring is really here? Sure felt like spring today with temps in the 60's. We only have a few very small snow piles left. You can finially see green sprouts trying to spring forth...oh, I can't wait...hope everyone is enjoying their own spring weather...perhaps with some outside knitting? Happy Knitting everyone :)

  1. Wow, the blanket is wonderful, especially how the blue forms the circles.

Snow predicted here in the coming week, so Spring is not here yet. I haven't seen any signs of plant growth.

  2. I think your quest has ended successfully! Your pattern looks better than ever now. Looks like you found the perfect solution. :) I'm glad you're finally starting to get warmer temps. It was 79 degrees here today. Whoa! That was a bit too warm too fast. Hope we all have lots of mild springy days ahead. Have a great weekend!

  4. Good job! The blanket and the cloths both look great!

It's already summer here --- 85 degrees! However, it doesn't have the humidity of summer. So --- I'm good!

  8. That is a great idea. I seem to have that issue with the edges of a lot of things. Your dish cloths are so pretty. Can't wait to see your blanket when it's done.

  9. Hmm...I will need to look up what "double knit" means in this context. It looks like a knitted on I-cord edge (to me). Off to study up. Looks great!

  10. I have to try that cloth. I haven't done much in the way of dishcloth knitting. I'm hoping to buy some peaches and cream when I visit Atlanta next month. Hopefully I can find a store that sells yarn near my hotel...:D

As for Spring, it hasn't found us yet! So far it's more like Sprinter! Another chilly day with some snow in the air, I'm ready for it to melt, but when it does we may need a boat to get to work as we've had so much snow. I hope spring finds you soon.
