Earmuffs for my Earphones

I have a pair of earphones that I use a lot. My RCA earphones. They are several years old now.

The foam covers on the speakers have started to fall apart. I could buy a new set, but they still work. Guess what I did to remedy the situation?......I crocheted covers!

Perfect!

I've done a little knitting on the baby blanket I started a while back.

It's coming along slowly. I haven't been working on it very much. I really wish I had used a larger needle. It's also bothering me that the bottom is flipping up. I'm hoping that when I thread a ribbon through the eyelets it will take care of the flaw. Maybe I'll have to block it. I don't usually block my baby blankets.

I probably need my head examined as I started knitting what I hope will become a huge blanket for our queen sized bed. We needed a new blanket to replace our old vellux one that is starting to wear thin in places. I figured I have so much yarn stashed away that I could easily make a large multicolored blanket. Why buy a blanket, when I can make one. I have all the time in the world....this summer and fall. I just hope I don't get sick of it. It's being knitted in one piece, which is a very big undertaking. The thought of assembling squares into a blanket doesn't thrill me, but fitting all the stitches needed (369) on my 36" long needle is not an easy feat.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who celebrate. Hope you have a lovely day.

Happy Knitting :)

  1. I am battling with a curling baby blanket edge, too. I thought adding some purls to the garter stitch border would cure that but it actually made it worse! :o(

  4. The covers look great! Saves money too.

I did a blanket all in one piece once. Made it a lot easier than sewing all those squares or panels.

That said ... guess what I'm knitting??? A blanket made of SQUARES. LOL

    Happy Mother's Day.

  5. How clever, crocheting covers for your earphones! Awesome idea.
Love the look of the baby blanket, need to check out your pattern. I always block all blankets, big and small. Are you using washable yarn? If so, no double you won't even need to pin it. Just lay it out wet after you launder it and give a bit of a tug here and there...it doesn't look like it will need much. Washing always softens a bit too which is nice.

Love the idea of a multi colored blanket for your bed. Good way to use up stash, think though I would get a larger circular, like 48?

Happy Mothers Day if it applies

    1. es, my yarn is washable....so I'll follow your instructions for blocking....thanks :)

I know I need a longer length needle, but I really don't want to buy one. I can just squeak by with this one. Doubt it could be even a inch wider and I'd be in trouble ;)

  6. Did you create a pattern for your ear phones? That was a great idea! Hope you're using a big needle on your big blanket! Good luck on that; something that large would take me a very long time....even quilts on the sewing machine do!

    1. No pattern, I just winged it ;) I'm using a sized 10 needle. It's the longest needle I own. Don't want to go out and buy another one...will make do. It seems to be working out fine....so far :)

  7. Happy mothers day!

Love the crochet ear bud covers. I have a pair of my sons that could use covers too. Did you wing it or is there a pattern online? Let me know please!

    1. Yes, I did just wing it. No pattern. It was pretty easy. I just crocheted a disc with single crochets the same size as the speaker. Then I double crocheted one row. I used a piece of yarn to thread through the holes and pulled it tight. Fastened it off and so far so good. It seems to be holding. :)

  10. I just another needles yesterday thinking it was longer to ease my crowding problem with a current ghan....come to find out, it's not longer. Argh, debating whether to return it or keep it since it's a lace with a point that might be useful even though it's not longer...But, may still go back and buy another one really LONGER. lol Tried using several pieces on my Denise needles, but having trouble with the yarn not sliding and it's tiring my arms out.

Making rounds today from my newest blog, Flat Stanley and Friends. Wanted to invite you over for a look see. And since you're a Mom etc, thought you might be able to share stories or pictures of a Flat Stanley adventure.

He needs some help getting started, with visitors, comments, followers, and sharing stories.

  11. Lordy! Longer needles for your blanket, woman! Well, it sure would make this major project easier. The ear covers for your headphone are super cute.

  13. What a big undertaking! I couldn't see myself knitting the whole blanket in one piece. I was sure I'd be bored, so I'm going the square by square route and wondering if I've lost my mind. I need 56 squares, 15 made so far. I plan to sew them into strips as soon as there are enough and hopefully the final tedious job, won't be as tedious. I am making it a variation of the Lionbrand sampler, just switching up some of the squares for squares that I preferred.
