A cabling necessity

Since I have been working very diligently on my Lover's Knot blanket, I've found to my dismay that many a times my trusty cable needle has become among the missing.  Guess what? On the weekend of Feb 5-7, my knitting calendar pages for that weekend was a pattern that quite possibly would be the answer to my problem.

"Marlyn's Handy Hooker' worked up fast and in no time I thought I had a solution,....but I really wasn't all that crazy about it when I tried it on.

The thought of someone actually seeing me with this thing around my neck made me pick up my crochet hook to try another design...one not so odd looking. Don't get me wrong, it most certainly would do the job it was intended for quite well.

Here is what I came up with:

I really like this one better on:

Now I make sure I wear my cable needle pendant when working on my cable blanket. Just a couple more diversions. Now I just have to get going and finish it....I'm getting there slowly :)

happy knitting :)

  1. Yours is MUCH more beautiful and you won't be embarrassed in case you forget to remove it before going out.

    Great pattern.

  2. Aha - great idea. I'm working on a sea of cables right now, so this could come in handy. Or, we could just knit our cables while wearing a handknit sweater and stick the cable needle right in the sweater. (OK - maybe not). Good luck with your cables.

  3. Oh yes, your design is much more palatable. It's slightly reminiscent of some American Indian designs but with a softer look. I like it. :)

  4. Your holder is much nicer - but have you thought about just cabling without the cable needle?

  8. Great idea, and yes yours is much much better. Perhaps you should your design into one of those calendar things?

Thanks for letting me know about Sandy's Space. I think when I added my new templates the issue began and to fix it I had to change from embedded below comments to full page. Would you try it again and let me know. And in the meantime I'll compare settings on all 3 blogs. Don't believe I made any change when I added the new one on Bridges. Hum...sometimes these codes elude me. lol

Hope you enjoyed looking around and will visit again my travel blog, I enjoy working on it alot.

  10. Your's is MUCH nicer....
How do you like this year's calendar. I was a tad disappointed in it.

Keep plugging away on the blanket.. a blanket is much more work that a wrap.. I have myself on a schedule now that i MUST follow in order to finish in time AND i need to find 2 buttons. SHould check the stash first.

I have to say it will be cozy warm. It's taking almost as long to pick out the veg matter as it does to knit.. oh and I use a dpn as a cable needle... and put it in my knitting when not in use!

  14. Hello,

I like your design for looks and for wear-ability. The original kind of looks like you are wearing an Easter egg around your neck.
